If you have not heard of Danny Daze from his monster hit 'Your Everything' than you may have been in a cave for the last year. Miami is his home turf and his tunes are as hot as the south beach in summer. From Nervous to Hot Creations, Kitsune, MOS, Southern Fried and more. Danny has had a bevvy of tracks out well before he hit it big with his recent floor shaking bass monster 'Your Everything'.

Just this week he has offerred up a remix of Madonna's Bedtime Stories. Featured below for free download from his soundcloud page. This track HAS to be heard on a worthy stereo to undertand the depth of the bass Danny has going on this well crafted interpretation of Madonna's tune. Thanks for the DL Danny! You should also check out Danny's recent GTC mix, which is beyond dope.

B.I.S. W+L Selectah!

The W&L connection of Zev and Gadi have teamed up to bring the world a whole different inspiration for underground house, disco, techno, electronica. This is a mix that i highly recommend from Mr. Sweeney's Beats in Space lab from september 2010.
Featuring a ton of Soul Clap jams, this surely was an inspiration for the recent mixes, tours, and crew love mayhem that has ensued since Boston and NYC have connected through SC vs. W+L.

MYRRYRS

Brings me back to the beach, way to go J. Keep the great sounds coming! Look out for this cat, his sound is next level more to come!

Trouble So (FREE D/L) by MYRRYRS

Slash Demon

Kenton Slash Demon are making moves with their tracks. This one is the track the got my ears perked up to the duo from Denmark. Silas and Jonas from Copenhagen have gained great attention without releasing a lot of material. Their sound is both organic and futuristic. The other project these two work on is an indie electronic band called When Saints Go Machine. Finely crafted sounds here, really love the track below for its emotional qualities. nyde den melodi og udforske mere fra Kenton skråstreg dæmon!

Be on the look out for Droog's latest Crosstown Rebels release. Culprit Records is the label project from the Droogies, their sounds will keep you coming back for more. On top of that, their party has gained best in class status from what i have seen in the line ups. (Culprit at the Standard Rooftop) is one to check out and is on my party/travel bucket list. It Must Be!

Editor of music hailing from Brisbane, Oz. Creator of ill sounds that flashback to the future. Luke Foskey is known for his crackin edits and smooth dj sets. Heard of this artist whilst perusing a great blog from the land of wonder, Patricia Never Leaves The House. Big ups to PNLTH, the blog is jam packed with great selections, you should check it out. This one is one of my favorite Talking Heads tracks of all time and most likely in my top 5 new wave rock list. Needless to say i was stoked to find this crowd pleaser earlier this year and even more excited to share it with yous guys now.

download

Also from Youth is a vinyl only release on Foot and Mouth. This label has a great track record for jams, edits, and the like. They have pumped out quite a number of tracks that end up on my platter. This one from Foskey takes a whack at a classic rock hip jam, Melanie's full version of Lay Down with The Edwin Hawkins Singers (Original Vinyl) Released 1970. This edit is a real charmer, lay it down again..........

Searching For The Thrill Of It

Empire of the Sun is an Australian electronic music group which started in 2007. The band is made up of two musicians, Luke Steele of The Sleepy Jackson and Nick Littlemore of Pnau. The pair achieved chart success with their first single, "Walking on a Dream", which got to number ten on the Australian charts, and reached 64 on the UK Singles Chart.

The title single was ripe for remixing and edits. My favorite two are below. The 2010 MAM edit is a very simple but effective use of the key parts. It really maintains the synthpop formula of the original while still breaking out a nice slice of funk to get the hips a shakin'.

Another amazing edit of Walking On A Dream is the Eric Volta version below. Eric has a sound that is not restricted to any one genre. His original works span the techno and house universe while his edit selections hit the spot. His tunes create a vibe based off of what he has experienced in the London underground and his personal musical history. The two come together in the form of high quality productions that shimmer and shake with emotional frequencies, Check out his free edits list, lots of other winners for download on his soundcloud.

Stay Gold

Sugar and gold Vandevolgen edit- get you some...........

portugal called, they say you should check this out

from the noise in my head guest mix:

"Our first ever contribution from Portugal comes from producer/DJ Tiago whose solo catalogue spans over releases on Ene Japan, DFA, Italians Do It Better and Leng. Late last year he issued a baked 12″ of mid-tempo grooves on ESP Institute under the alias Sea, Power & Change which quickly became a playing favourite. Our excitement was further satisfied with Golf Channel’s Gala Drop disc, featuring Tiago making a racket behind the drum kit in this live psych ensemble. Both of these are essential releases and now available in Melbourne at Someday. No stranger to the 1200s, Tiago has also been the resident of Lux, a club in his hometown of Lisbon, for 12 years running. With that much practice it’s no surprise that tonight’s guest mix is a total burner!"

Eddie c on Sweat Lodge Radio

Dreamy house music at it's best from the Sweat Lodge. RA sums it all up:
"Eddie C could well be described as one of the Slo Mo/ Edits/ Disco scene's heaviest hitters. Eddie came out of nowhere, well to be fair he's from the very beautiful town of Banff in Alberta, Canada, and in just over two years he's featured on or been the main attraction with 11 singles and EP's (actually its more than that). Having graced labels like Jisco Music, Flashback, Sleazybeats, Wolf Music, 7 Inches of Love & Home Taping, amongst others, with his deep, lush and beautiful grooves, C is constantly name checked by every major playa this end of the underground. The fact is, the guy hardly needs an introduction."

I enjoyed this mix and will replay often.

DOTB: More Passion Less Fashion

This release comes to us from Airdrop Digital, with Leeds based Death on the Balcony making a sophmore appearance on the label with the We Need Passion EP. The Mark E mix is choice. Not related to shawn e, mark e's tracks have been smoothing up the place for a while now. With releases on Golf Channel, Ghosty, Sonar Kollective, Jiscomusic, Running Back, and Spectral sound to name a few. This remix is a beaut along with the whole ep. Each track having it's own purpose in the space time continuum. Buy

Burned

Vinyl has been added to the list of casualties of the recent london riots. While the situation is wrong on so many levels, this is just the proverbial icing on the cake for music lovers. Best wishes and hopes for peace go out to the UK as well as the labels that lost all of their inventory in the fires.

Express Yourself

Upcoming on Crosstown Rebel's is Maceo Plex's Sweating Tears E.P. I've Been following Eric Estornel as Maceo Plex since a copy of the Nico Jaar remix of Gravy train made it into my crate early in 2010, which then prompted me to find Vibe your Love which was SICK! I first heard Can't Leave You on Eric's RA podcast back in March of this year and searched about for more info to no avail. Started seeing the track pop up in youtube vids and live sets from Jamie Jones, Damian Lazarus, Seth Troxler, and a few others and realized shortly after the track was upcoming on Crosstown rebels. Release date is right around the corner and both tracks are will be hitting hard wax and digital on September 12, 2011. The track features Eric's sound that he started developing when working on his Maceo Plex moniker and sending the output to Crosstown Rebel Damian Lazarus. Can't leave you is a fusion of tightly processed instruments riding amongst a bouncy disco guitar line. While a big deep dark bass rumbles as well as ties the whole track together in a very moving way. Creating the vibe across the world for the last few months through many plays from the top jocks in the underground, this track is and will continue to set fire to dance floors everywhere.

Eric found his groove a long time ago with his techno moniker Maetrik, but has fine tuned and refined it into some of the most stunning electronic tracks I have heard in a long time. Can't leave you is my pick of the EP, but Stop Your Hate is also quite a jam which makes this a complete package. Also, be on the lookout for the Tale of Us remix to come out after the original drops on 9-12.

scissor and thread

Brooklyn son. A nameless crew's tracks tear up dancefloors worldwide. My pick on this release is Lovework by Black light smoke. Lovework is a No-Wave-inspired ditty littered with catchy analog synths, an ass-shakin’ bassline and reverbed claps juxtapozed with a haunting processed vocal from the producer himself that repeats, “You made a mess of my head. Now I gotta put it all back together. There’s nothing to say, over and over… ” which is how this tune will be playing in your head after one listen. For an underground indie label, S&T are getting some major rotation above and underground. Hot jams are the par all over this label. Thanks Francis! Lovework by Scissor and Thread

Two Hills

"A recent signing to Gadi Mizrahi’s (of Wolf + Lamb mega-fame) vinyl-only imprint, Double Standard, Double Hill hails from Israel – admittedly, a place not known for its electronic music. Unperturbed by his geography, this fresh talent used it for his moniker (the suburb he lives in now, called in Hebrew “Givatayim”, means ‘two hills’ in English) and set about constructing disco, hip-hop, funk and house influenced electronic music – and this is the result. Built around a raw-sounding kick-to-clap beat and penetrating bass stabs, the track rises and falls on two violin crescendos; simple but effective."

reposted from http://welovetocher.com/

This track follows the highly emotional Purple Hills and delivers the goods even with the bar being set so high.

MAM Edits

Upcoming on W+L Black are the MAM Edits. Miguel Campbell and Matt Hughes make up the french house inspired disco duo. With tracks on Outcross Records, Nocturnal, Slow Network, Mullet Records, No.19 Music, upcoming on W+L black, and Hot Creations, it would seem that they are taking a step up in the underground in many of the right ways. I first heard of Miguel when Active Touch made the rounds on Hot Natured, what a track! Miguel and Matt's french laced house tingles with synth, is filtered for maximum effect, and has infamous robot guy sining about getting down. Reminiscent of Daft Punk yet with a classic feel that was born 20 years too late, these edits are sure to set fire to a dancefloor near you. Vinyl out September of 2011, get you some.

Limited Love

This little beauty was released on Atlas records last year in the fall. I am going to let the words of another reviewer, who did a great job, describe the track as they took the words out of my mouth.

"This is a sparkling beauty. A futuristic crooner incarnation by excellence. Like slowed down, liquid mercurial soul, with sparse, phenomenally stripped-down sound spacialization (a lot of air here, breathing silences, incredibly moving textures and density), and a voice that spreads emotion and pain like Harry Connick Jr was actually human and devastated.
This reminds me of the blast when Massive Attack or Portishead's smokey and desolated yet shiny electronic soul appeared, and you can almost bet that this one might age even better as it sounds more to the bone, fragile, cosmic and refined (and sample-free).
James Blake totally reappropriates the Feist original and turns it into this novelty : a true, rare, accurate, universal 21st century love song." restless from discogs reviews

James Blake is both muscially and visually stunning, check out his website and see for yourself. Funny thing is, I was introduced to this track when i started checking out Daniel Bortz (db) and ran into his edit of the track while i was checking out his music for my dj sets. It is a very nice edit that keeps the feeling of the original intact while getting the tune in shape for a dancefloor/party/gathering/bedroom. Love how the lead in of the track uses the piano sample to warmly stab into the track. This one is vinyl only to my knowledge, drop needles, support vinyl. Coming soon to Keine Rechte 003. The flip side is hot as well.

Lastly, if that is not to your liking and need a bit more tech in your house, Scuba from Superfreq LA makes a solid effort of this remix. The bass bends your ear as the stabby vocal samples echo throughout the beautiful space Scuba creates in his percussive interpretation of the JAM.

Crystallization

The XX hit it huge with their single, Crystalized. Many have edited and remixed this track for the dancefloor as well as some for covers you might listen to whilst laying low. Bottom line is that this track has all the makings of a 'motional pick. For that reason, we take a look at three versions of this track. The original Crystalized, by XX of indie rock fame, is a beautiful piece of music deep and thoughtful. Wispy sounds of times gone by travel through your ears and make your brain think of other days.

The next is my favorite cover of this track and it is a live recording from a BBC1 radio session with the Gorillaz. Often covers don't quite hold a candle to the original, not the case with this one. The vocals are the centerpiece of this cover and they are beautiful like a dream you don't want to wake up from. The keys also aid in the standout nature of this version of the XX hit. Thank you Damon and crew, this is a beaut!

Lastly, we need not forget the dancefloor. For this one Jamie Jones takes his crack at the edit and it works out fairly well, love playing this track in my DJ sets, it is not particularly perfect, which makes it even better. Plus, Jamie had it offered as a free download which is cool. Yea, these are not anything new, but Crystalized has the moxie to be a classic track when my kid is grown. Enjoy!

Star light/war

you will find a good variety of remixed and edit material written about on this blog. Fittingly enough, the first post is about one of the true edit kings, he has been doing it since the early 80's and his influence on the house/disco music and dance scene is huge across the UK and worldwide. I present to you two tracks from Greg Wilson that i find delightful. The first is a Crazy P song called Star War that GW remixed. THe bassline twirls around the fluffy top end, grooving the whole time. This track is on Paper Recordings and is well worth the listen (as is the ray mang version as well!)

Crazy Penis - Star War (Greg Wilson Edit) by Paper Recordings

The next one is an Escort track called Starlight, also remixed by Greg WIlson in a tight fashion. Escort is a group of 7 or 8 from NYC that make quality disco cuts. This original record was 001 on Escort records. I really like the way Wilson manages to highlight the strings in the breakdown, keeping the bass line rolling along until the groove breaks back in. Again, WIlson has been doing this a long time, these are just two that i am really digging on at the moment. Enjoy!
