Have your own kinda style, not like the rest

This one goes out to Jamie Jones who won big last night at the Ibizia DJ awards at Pacha for both Best Deep house dj and tied for track of the season with his remicks of the Azari and III song Hungry for the Power. The photo above really encapsulates the overall theme of Jones and many of his endevours. In the background, but very noticeable! Adding to the hilarity of the photo, you will notice Paris Hilton standing there taking credit for making horrid tunes and touting the fact that all you need to reach the dance music masses is DOUGH and some hot looks. Jamie's success in moving dark, sexy, housey, techno-y, disco to the top of the underground and the tip of the mainstream is second to NONE. Jamie has been an underground pace setter for quite a while, and as of late, unstoppable across the pond and within the US dance scenes. Big ups to Jamie and crew who have taken music I love and given it a shot at being more widely accepted. This is happening and cannot be stopped. At a time when techno was without wind and stuck in the doldrums, Jones stepped up and let people know, 'i like vocals and that is great!'. This in turn made the people dance, and remember that partying with techno was supposed to be fun. In walks disco and house, they are like 'yea buddy! this is what it used to be like!!!!' and there you have modern quality underground dance music the way it should be. For too long the only music that could crossover and still had some underground flavor was poorly produced blog house. Which, really was, piss poor indie dance. Currently, electronic dance music has crossed over to every piece of pop as far as the eye can see. Don't even get me started on dubstep, this is another post altogether as it relates to young edm fans being polluted with god awful sounds. At the end of the day though, all of the trash that attracts people to EDM should be praised as it is a gateway into building the ears to maturity and truly discerning electronic music fans. Without bad you cannot know what is good . With much hard work from Jones and a handful of other hustling jocks/producers, we have seen a sound that reflects the past and future all at once and seems to have momentum that will carry way further than anyone could have imagined. Here's to solid, refined yet unhinged, underground dance music that will make a difference in the musical education of a population of people across the world who are just learning what good dance music really can be. Congrats Jamie!!!!

And You Know This Mang

Raj Gupta (Ray Mang) has been pumping jams, edits, and remixes across the globe for a LONG time now. His first big hit that raised brows was back in 96 on Noid Recordings, NUMBER ONE (what an Tune!). My favorite Mang release of late was Look into My Eyes on the ever epic DFA label. My next fa This cat has been captivating disco and house enthusiasts ever since and doesn't show signs of slowing down. This mix was recorded at the Odyssey at the Queen of Hoxton on 3/9/11. This set is a jem from top to bottom and has been on my ipod since it went up for limited download about a month ago. Since, it the coverted downward arrow has dissappeared from the cloud to my knowledge so i have reupped for the 'motional readers out there far and wide. Please enjoy this many many times as it is a dreamy, percussive, baleric, sexy, slow, low, and JAMMING set of major proportions. download

Maxxi

This mix comes directly from the good folks over at WeAreBBB in their podcast series. The mix is packed with jems including a new remix by the Soul Clap, Pumped Up Kicks from Foster the People which is a great closing cut for a set. Maxxi Soundsystem coming at you straight from Brighton where the house and disco scene is/has been blowing up. The mix reflects a great sense of the refined side of disco and the finer parts of house music with a little techno flavor lashed on for good measure. To quote the WABBB 'This mix showcases his sound perfectly. Deep basslines, chattering retro hats, claps and toms and smooth vocal chops. This'll work at the last barbecue of the summer or after the last drink of a late night.' Enojy and be sure to check out more Maxxi Soundsystem if you have not heard of him, his tracks are as hot or hotter than his mix. MIX HERE

Music and More

I wrote about Miguel and Matt a few post back. Together they are MAM, as well as Outcross records. Outcross is celebrating their 5 year anniversary, so go check out their website and show some love. This mix from 2009 features all original tracks and an interview from Miguel Campbell. The highlight of the mix for me comes at 22:00ish when he drops MAM - I can fly. I cant find out much about this track or where i can get my paws on it, but it is a JAM. Dear Miguel, would buy this on vinyl if it exists! Enjoy the heat, this one will get stuck in your ear!

Hellnotize You

Loving the edited version of this NERD jam by Christian Prommer. Prommer's remixes and productions are made well and also demonstrate a broad array of musical styles. Dynamic, percussive, funky but smooth, his tracks caught my ear after discovering his sounds on soundcloud. Will be enjoying this one for a while more i am sure! Classic Evil

One of the favorite vinyls in my collection that has never gotten old, Someday by Eddie Richards on Soco Audio from Atlanta released early 2002. Though i highlight Someday, all three tracks on the record are of the same fabric and also get regulars plays since i bought the records nearly 10 years ago now. This one holds a very special place in my musical history and highly recommend picking this one up and putting it on a platter near you.
